A WEEK IN PROVENCE – Rendezvous in Avignon

Do you love Paris, the city of lights? …
So do we!

Do you love Lyon, the gastronomical center of France? …
So do we!

BUT, have you ever stepped onto the time-trodden, cobblestone streets of the old-world, walled-city of Avignon…the gastronomical center of Provence?

 If not, you will be amazed at the riches of cuisine, wine, art, music and drama of locally owned and managed restaurants, wine caves, amusements and educational entertainment like you have never before experienced. You will discover the meaning of what French really means… A Week in Provence. Live, Dine and Socialize in Avignon. Stroll the cobblestone paths laid down in the 13th century. Explore the 14th century Palais des Papes…up close and personal. 

Day One

Arrival. Villa or Hotel check in at 3:00pm

Free Time. Unpack, relax, walk. Hosted dinner.

 

Day Two

Hosted breakfast. Orientation and French Language & Customs with Frank Attoun, college language professor fluent in French, Spanish and English. These tutoring sessions will continue throughout the entire Rendezvous in Provence.

Parlez-vous français? Learn and have fun with some of the helpful and handy French phrases and customs and then apply them as you interact with the local shop keepers. You will amaze yourself.

Hosted lunch at a delightful local café in their delightful local restaurant outdoor courtyard.

Time to seek out some of the secrets and treasures of Avignon on on this personalized walking tour of the walled village where you will visit the personal chambers of the 14th century Palais des Papes. Enjoy…you live here…then High Tea at the elegant five-star hotel.

Hosted dining experience in a locally-owned restaurant…the finest in dining since 1982 …an experience in true French elegance with the sixth generation of family chefs. Personally meet the owners and chefs.

 

Day Three

Hosted breakfast. Touch, smell, taste and select your lunch from this farm-fresh array of farm-fresh foods with a Gourmet Chef in the famous Les Halles. Amble by and inhale the aromas of the row-upon-row of sensual and colorful world-selected spices.

Hands-on Cooking Class with a famous Gourmet Chef…sharing his treasured-recipe secrets.

Lunch with the Gourmet Chef. You will personally experience why French food is at the top of the taste list.

Explore and apply your new-found skills while strolling this quaint Provençal village. French tutoring for those adventurous individuals plus wine and tapas dégustation with the freedom to choose multiple selections of any of the wines you wish.

Theater, Villeneuve, Distillery…optional.

Free Time. Hosted dinner in a courtyard dining experience in a locally-owned restaurant. Personally meet the owners and chef, Dominique and Laurent.

 

Day Four

Hosted breakfast. One-Day Wine Tour with a visit to local villages and vineyards north of Avignon. Autumn is harvest time. As you are escorted through the vineyards, see the gathering of grapes, inhale the aromas and pick grapes off the ripe vines to compare the different varietals, flavors, textures and colors.

Your morning on the road to Châteauneuf du Pape. Then to the Musée de Vignerons. Then off to Chez Brotte and Roger Sobon cave.

Hosted and escorted, mid-day lunch at Le Veger des Papes, a charming hilltop award-winning restaurant with the tour director and sommelier.

Provence countryside wine tasting and etiquette with dégustations at Domaine de Nalys, de Beaurenard and possibly, time permitting, even Clos Saint Michel.

Free Time. Dinner at your leisure.

 

 

 

Day Five

After a leisurely morning breakfast, then a full day is planned to visit numerous quaint and local, near-by villages such as Luberon, Gordes, Goult, and Roussillon to walk through and experience the charm of old-world Provence. Lunch in a charming and colorful village with art and history of the area up-close-and-personal. Some of the other possibilities for our village visits will be Fontaine de Vaucluse: a beautiful emerald river in the rocky valley!

There is a great restaurant that offers great food. It’s a bit fancy but delicious! Oppède le Vieux: this village was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century. Just few people came back, most of the houses have collapsed and nature is taking over. Definitely unique in the Luberon! There is a lovely bistrot on the main square.

Venasque: another hilltop village, famous for the cherries and lost in the mountain. Your hostess for this extraordinary day of travel, events and dining will be a local of the area and certified travel guide of Provence…along with Jim and Dana Melton and your French professor, Frank Attoun.

Continue the tour across the Rhône River to Villneuve where you will sample a variety of olive oils suited for royalty. These royal liquids have been honored worldwide. If you think you know the true tastes of this treasured oil, you will be surprised at what awaits you in this most special award-winning manufacturing facility.

Now…dine at le Bistrot on an island just off Avignon and experience the fullness of bursting flavors of liquid gold come to life in your meal extraordinaire.

 

Day Six

Morning of leisure. Petit dejéuner optional (hosted) • Your French professor will provide for those who prefer, a more in-depth language tutoring and dialogue.

Hosted lunch at a famous local café near the fountain in Place des Corps Saints with savory house specialties and delectable tasty treats. Stroll through the time-trodden cobblestone streets of Avignon.

Freetime, optional shopping, relax.

Return to the villa and freshen up for the evening. Then Depart dinner at a private mansion with the magic of the HID (Home Invasion Dinner). Preparation observation, conversation, dining and commentary of the evening meal. 

 

Day Seven

A Day of Avignon Discovery! Hosted meals and events

Petit dejéuner (hosted) Free time. Morning of exploration. Time now to explore on your own, shop, visit museums and savor this charming city of Avignon. French language session.

Hosted lunch at the famed restaurant on the rue Joseph Vernet.

Mid-day:
FFT Pastery

Pastry: the French national pastime of the afternoon goûter with an Avignon pâtissier and
Chocolate tasting with an Avignon chocolatier…so velvety smooth it melts in your mouth.

Wine and tapas dégustation at le Cave while observing and discussing, “What’s for dinner?”

There is no real predetermined end to the evening…after dinner drinks while you sip and chat with your group and others whom you have met during your “Week in Provence”.

 

Day Eight

Hosted light petit dejéuner. Time now for your departure from villa or hotel at 11:00am

Say farewell to your companions as you come to the close of your visit with lasting memories to share with your family and friends on your return home.
